  1. སེམས།

    Biblical: In the OT the fundamental meaning of the term translated "soul" is "life"; in the Gk. the terms psyche (mind) and pneuma (spirit) are used for those aspects of man's being which survive death; hence, a Bib. definition for སེམས། could be སྙིང་​གི་​གང་​ཟག་​སྦས་​པ། the hidden inner person (1 Pet. 3:4 SV); སེམས་​གསོད་​མི་​ཐུབ། cannot kill the soul (Mt. 10:28), སེམས་​ལ་​ངལ་​གསོ་​ཐོབ་​འོང་​། find rest for your souls (Mt. 11:29), རང་​གི་​སྙིང་​ཧྲིལ་​པོ་​དང་​། སེམས་​ཧྲིལ་​པོ་​དང་​། ཡིད་​ཧྲིལ་​པོ། [with] all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (Mt. 22:37), ང་​ཡི་​སེམས་​ཀྱིས་​གཙོ་​བོར་​བསྟོད། my soul glorifies the Lord (Lk. 1:46), ལུས་​སྲོག་​སེམས་​གསུམ། body, spirit, and soul (1 Thes. 5:23), སེམས་​ཀྱི་​ཐར་​པ། salvation of the soul (1 Pet. 1:9).

  2. སྲོག

    [lit. life]

    Biblical: soul, life: འཇིག་​རྟེན་​ཧྲིལ་​པོ་​ཐོབ་​ཀྱང་​། རང་​སྲོག་​བརླག gains the whole world, loses his own soul (Mt. 16:26).

  3. སྙིང་​།

    [lit. heart]

    Biblical: soul: ཁྱེད་​ཀྱི་​སྙིང་​ལའང་​རལ་​གྲི་​སྣུན་​པར་​འགྱུར། and a sword will pierce your own soul too (Lk. 2:35).
