Biblical: 1) wisdom is an attribute of God: ཁོང་མཉམ་ཤེས་རབ་དང་བློ་གྲོས་ཡོད། to God belong wisdom and understanding (Job 12:13), by which He creates (Pr. 8:23ff) and governs (Is. 31:2) the world; 2) from a Biblical standpoint, true human wisdom is grounded in the knowledge of God: ཡ་ཝེའར་འཇིགས་པ་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱི་ཐོག་མའོ། the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Ps. 111:10), in contrast to the worldly wisdom འཇིག་རྟེན་འདིའི་ཤེས་རབ། (1 Cor. 1:20) of pagan cultures. As with Solomon's wisdom ཤ་ལོ་མོའི་ཤེས་རབ། (Mt. 12:42), true wisdom སྟེང་ནས་འབྱུང་བའི་ཤེས་རབ། is a gift of God (Jas. 1:5; 3:17). In the NT, wisdom is often mentioned with other spiritual gifts: ཤེས་རབ་དང་མཐུ་སྟོབས། wisdom and miraculous powers (Mt. 13:54), དམ་པའི་ཐུགས་ཉིད་དང་ཤེས་རབ་ཀྱིས་གང་བ། full of the Spirit and wisdom (Acts 6:3), ཤེས་རབ་དང་རྟོགས་པའི་སེམས། wisdom and revelation (Eph. 1:17), ཤེས་རབ་དང་རིག་པ། wisdom and knowledge (Col. 2:2,3).

There are three methods for acquiring wisdom: ཐོས་པ་ལས་བྱུང་བའི་ཤེས་རབ། through hearing or learning; བསམ་པ་ལས་བྱུང་བའི་ཤེས་རབ། through contemplation; and བསྒོམ་པ་ལས་བྱུང་བའི་ཤེས་རབ། though meditation (TRI 275).
