1. སྟོད།

   [var. བསྟོད།] p. བསྟོད།

   Biblical: to praise or glorify: 1) used of praising God: ངས་​ཁྱེད་​ལ་​བསྟོད་​དོ། I praise you (Mt. 11:25,26), ཡིས་​ར་​ཨེལ་​གྱི་​དཀོན་​མཆོག་​ལ་​བསྟོད་​དོ། they praised the God of Israel (Mt. 15:31), ང་​ཡི་​སེམས་​ཀྱིས་​གཙོ་​བོར་​བསྟོད། my soul glorifies the Lord (Lk. 1:46); 2) also used of praise of men: ངས་​ཁྱེད་​ཚོར་​མི་​བསྟོད་​དོ། I have no praise for you (1 Cor. 11:17), ཆོས་​ཚོགས་​ཐམས་​ཅད་​ཀྱིས་​བསྟོད་​པའི་​སྤུན། the brother who is praised by all the churches (2 Cor. 8:18).

   Cognates: 1) བསྟོད་​འོས་​པ། praiseworthy (Phil. 4:8); 2) བསྟོད་​བསྔགས། praise: དཀོན་​མཆོག་​ལ་​བསྟོད་​བསྔགས་​སོ། they praised God (Mt. 9:8), ང་​ཡི་​སྐྱབས་​གནས་​དམ་​པར་​བསྟོད་​བསྔགས་​ཤིག praised be God my holy refuge (2 Sam. 22:47 NTV), ཕྱི་​པ་​ཐམས་​ཅད་​གཙོ་​བོར་​བསྟོད་​སྔོགས་​ཤིག praise the Lord, all you Gentiles (Rom. 15:11); 3) བསྟོད་​གཏོང་​། to praise: ངས་​རང་​བསྟོད་​གཏོང་​ན། if I glorify myself (Jn. 8:54); 4) བསྟོད་​པ་​འབུལ། to offer praise (KTM).

2. བསྟོད་​པ།

   [var. སྟོད་​པ།]

   Biblical: praise, honor: ཁྱེད་​ཀྱིས་​བསྟོད་​པ་​དྲངས་​སོ། you have ordained praise (Mt. 21:16), རྒྱལ་​པོས་​བསྟོད་​པ་​དེ་​དཀོན་​མཆོག་​ལ་​མ་​ཕུལ་​པས། because [Herod] did not give praise to God (Acts 12:23), དེ་​འདྲ་​ལ་​བསྟོད་​པ་​མི་​ནས་​མི་​འབྱུང་​། such a man's praise is not from men (Rom. 2:29), རེ་​རེའི་​བསྟོད་​པ་​དཀོན་​མཆོག་​ནས་​འོང་​། each will receive his praise from God (1 Cor. 4:5), བསྟོད་​པ་​དང་​དཔལ་​དང་​བཀུར་​སྟི། praise, glory, and honor (1 Pet. 1:7).

   Buddhist: 1) praise: སངས་​རྒྱས་​ལ་​བསྟོད་​པ་​མཆོད་​བརྗོད་​ཀྱི་​དཔེ་​ཆ། manuals of worship in praise of the Buddha (TRC 2), འཇིག་​རྟེན་​ལས་​འདས་​བསྟོད་​པ། praise to the [Buddha] transcending the world (LKT 2); 2) བསྟོད་​ཆེན་​བཞི། scriptures which praise four specific Buddhas (TRI 117).

   Cognates: བསྟོད་​དབྱངས། [var. སྟོད་​དབྱངས། བསྟོད་​གླུ།] a song of praise: ཁྱེད་​ལ་​བསྟོད་​དབྱངས་​བྱ། I will sing your praises (Heb. 2:12), བློ་​བདེ་​ན་​བསྟོད་​དབྱངས་​ཕུལ་​ཞིག the happy should sing songs of praise (Jas. 5:13).

3. བཀུར་​སྟི།

   Biblical: honor, respect, praise: ངས་​མིའི་​བཀུར་​སྟི་​མི་​འཚོལ། I do not accept [lit. seek] praise from men (Jn. 5:41), ཕན་​ཚུན་​བཀུར་​སྟི་​འཚོལ་​བ། seek praise from one another (Jn. 5:44), དེ་​ཚོ་​དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གི་​བཀུར་​སྟི་​ལས། མིའི་​བཀུར་​སྟི་​ལ་​ལྷག་​པར་​ཆགས་​པས་​སོ། they loved praise from men more than praise from God (Jn. 12:43).
