  1. སྙིང་​རྗེ།

    [hon. ཐུགས་​རྗེ།]

    Biblical: 1) God's kindness, mercy, or compassion: ཁོང་​གི་​ཐུགས་​རྗེ་​དང་​། ཐུགས་​བཟོད་​དང་​། [God's] kindness and patience (Rom. 2:4), consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God (Rom. 11:22), དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གི་​ཐུགས་​རྗེ་​དང་​བྱམས་​ཐུགས། the kindness and love of God (Tit. 3:4); 2) human kindness: ཡུ་​ལི་​འུས་​པའུ་​ལུ་​ལ་​ཐུགས་​རྗེས་​བསྐྱངས་​ནས། Julius, in kindness to Paul (Acts 27:3), ཐུགས་​ཉིད་​ཀྱི་​འབྲས་​བུ་​ནི། སྙིང་​རྗེ་​དང་​། བཟང་​པོ། the fruit of the Spirit is . . kindness and goodness . . (Gal. 5:22).

    Buddhist: One who ཐུགས་​རྗེ། thinks of the benefit and well being of infinite sentient beings (KTM). see compassion.

  2. དྲིན།

    [hon. བཀའ་​དྲིན།]

    Biblical: kindness: ཁོང་​གིས་​བཀའ་​དྲིན་​མཛད། he has shown kindness (Acts 14:17), མ་​ཤི་​ཀ་​ཡེ་​ཤུའི་​སྒོ་​ནས་​ང་​ཚོ་​ལ་​བཀའ་​དྲིན་​མཛད་​པ། his kindness to us in Christ (Eph. 2:7), སྙིང་​རྗེ་​དང་​། བཀའ་​དྲིན་​དང་​། དམན་​སེམས་​དང་​། compassion, kindness, humility (Col. 3:12), དྲིན་​དང་​། དམན་​ས་​བཟུང་​བའི་​སེམས། kindness and humility (Col. 3:12 SV).

    Buddhist: Kindness is a major theme in Bst. doctrine, and a common subject for meditation. In one such meditation མར་​ཤེས་​དང་​། དྲིན་​དྲན། དྲིན་​གཟོ་​གསུམ། one meditates on another being's having been one's mother in previous births, remembers her kindnesses, and wishes to repay those kindnesses in order to generate boddhicitta, the mind of enlightenment (TRC 321). The Buddhas show བཀའ་​དྲིན་​ཆེ། when they give refuge to beings caught in the cycle of rebirth (KTM). དྲིན་​དྲན། mindfulness of kindnesses (TRC 319), དྲིན་​གཟོ། repayment of kindnesses (TRC 321), གཞན་​གྱི་​བཀའ་​དྲིན་​ལ་​བརྟེན་​དགོས་​པ། to be dependent on the kindnesses of others (DLP 15), ཀུན་​ལ་​བཀའ་​དྲིན་​ཆེ་​བར་​བསྒོམ། to meditate on the great kindnesses of others (UCO 148).
