  1. འགོད་​པ།

    p. བཀོད། imp. ཁོད།

    Biblical: to create, found, or establish: 1) name of the Book of Genesis: འགོད་​པ། Genesis; 2) to create: དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གིས་​ནམ་​མཁའ་​དང་​ས་​བཀོད་​དོ། God created the heavens and the earth (Gen. 1:1), འགོད་​པ་​པོ་​ལས་​བཀོད་​པ་​ལ་​ལྷག་​པར་​བསྙེན་​བཀུར་​བྱས་​ཏེ། worshiped created things rather than the Creator (Rom. 1:25), ཅི་​ཡོད་​ཚད་​བཀོད་​པའི་​དཀོན་​མཆོག God, who created all things (Eph. 3:9).

    Buddhist: The creation of the universe is a doctrine not found in Bsm, which assumes the universe is eternal, and subject to periodic destructions and rebirths. Bst. writings mention creation only to deny it: ནང་​པའི་​ཆོས་​ལུགས་​སུ་​འཇིག་​རྟེན་​བཀོད་​པ་​པོ་​མེད། in Tibetan Bsm. there is no Creator (DLP 20), ང་​ཚོ་​ནང་​པའི་​ཆོས་​ཀྱི་​བཤད་​པ་​ལྟར་​ན། འཛམ་​གླིང་​ཚང་​མ་​རང་​བཞིན་​གྱི་​འབྱུང་​པ་​ཡིན་​པ་​བཤད་​དོ། ནང་​པའི་​ཆོས་​ལྟར་​ན་​སྤྱན་​རས་​གཟིགས་​ཀྱི་​སྤྲུལ་​པ་​པྲེའུ་​གཅིག་​མི་​རྣམས་​ཀྱི་​ཕ་​ཡིན་​པ་​དང་​། རྗེ་​བཙུན་​སྒྲོལ་​མའི་​སྤྲུལ་​པ་​བྲག་​སྲིན་​མོ་​མི་​རྣམས་​ཀྱི་​མ་​ཡིན་​པ་​བཤད་​དོ། according to our Buddhist religion, the world arose by itself. A monkey, the emanation of the god Chenresi, was the father of all men, and a rock-demoness, the emanation of the goddess Dolma, was the mother (DPD).

    Cognates: བཀོད་​པའི་​ལས། [lit. established work] fate; about which there are many Tibetan proverbs, e.g. བཀོད་​པའི་​ལས་​ལ་​ཆོག་​ཤེས་​མ་​བྱས་​ན། རང་​སྡུག་​རང་​གིས་​ཉོ་​བ་​དོན་​མེད་​རེད། if you are not content with what fate has decided, then you are looking for suffering (KPU 17).

    Biblical: do or make: དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གིས་​མཛད་​པའི་​ཁ་​ཟས། foods which God created (1 Tim. 4:3), དཀོན་​མཆོག་​གིས་​མཛད་​པ་​ཐམས་​ཅད་​བཟང་​པོ་​ཡིན། all that God created is good (1 Tim. 4:4-5), ནམ་​མཁའ་​དང་​འཇིག་​རྟེན་​གྱི་​མཛད་​པ་​པོ། Maker of heaven and earth (ATM; 1762).
