baptism

ཁྲུས།

[hon. ཁྲུས་​གསོལ།]

Biblical: a bath or washing: 1) baptism (Gr. baptisma) ཡོ་​ཧ་​ནན་​གྱི་​ཁྲུས། John's baptism (Mt. 21:25), འགྱོད་​ཚངས་​ཀྱི་​ཁྲུས། a baptism of repentance (Mk. 1:4), ཁྲུས་​གསོལ་​དེའི་​སྒོ་​ནས་​ང་​ཚོ་​ཁོང་​དང་​མཉམ་​དུ་​ཤི་​ནས་​དུར་​དུ་​བཅུག་​པ་​ཡིན། through baptism we were buried with him (Rom. 6:4), གཙོ་​བོ་​གཅིག །དད་​པ་​གཅིག །ཁྲུས་​གསོལ་​གཅིག one lord, one faith, one baptism (Eph. 4:5); 2) washing: ཆུ་​གཙང་​མས་​ལུས་​ཁྲུས་​ནས། having our bodies washed with pure water (Heb. 10:22).

Secular: རྨ་​ཁྲུས་​ཡ། washing of wounds (DPD). The honorific form ཁྲུས་​གསོལ། is not in common spoken use today, but could be appropriately used e.g. of washing by a high lama (AMD). See baptize, below.
